DATELINE: NEW YORK CITY, September 27, 2002:

Well, hello everyone. The past few months have been quite busy for things in the Drew Young camp.

In June I headed into the Clinton Recording Studios with a brand new band to track the new record. The band consists of some of the most sought-after musicians in the New York studio world and includes Harry Vaughn on drums; Kevin Kuhn on Guitar, dobro and mandolin; Dave Brouilette on bass; Gregory Smith on B3; Barry Vaughn on Percussion; Sean Kendall on Vocals and Guitar; Kiley Michael on vocals; and Annie Hayden on vocals. These folks are among the most amazing and talented artists that I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

The energy surrounding the project has been positively electric and it looks like we will be done before the end of the year. I will post some tracks on the site as they become available. The new project has been quite a stylistic departure from the previous projects . I have been exploring a "Rootsy/Americana/Rock" feel and there is ABSOLUTELY no programming or synthesizers on any of the tracks.

October 12th I will be performing at the NASHVILLE NEW MUSIC CONFERENCE at Guido's at 8PM. This will be my first performance in Nashville in over 7 years and we are looking forward to a great evening. If any of you are in the area please come and join us. It should be a great time.

The latest CD "No Good At Being Cool" has been receiving extensive airplay in Italy including Radio Voce Spazio in Alessandria, Italy; RADIO GOLD POPULAR NETWORK; Radio Krystall; and I charted at #4 on the Citta' del Capo-Popolare Network. Recently I just began receiving radio play in Luxembourg as well.If al goes well, I will be doing a short tour of Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg this spring!

Good things are happening. Please check back soon for updates.

Peace, Drew.

DATELINE: NEW YORK CITY, November 1, 2001:

Greetings each and every one of you... I hope that all is as well as can be in your world. As much as I wanted to avoid making my feelings heard on the WTC incident, I wanted to make it anyway. Sorry if it seems cheesy but here it goes.

On September 11th I was getting ready for work, like we all were. I generally do not listen to the Radio or watch television while I am settling in for the long day, and the morning of September 11th was no different than the rest. I was listening to the Glands and looking at the beautiful day outside wondering if I could somehow play hooky from my responsibilities when the phone rang.

The voice on the other end implored me to turn the TV on... When I did, I could not believe what I was witnessing. There are no words to describe what was happening in my city! Our City! That is probably why we were being so bombarded by the images of the buildings being attacked and falling, because there are no words to describe it.

Like all of us, I was outraged, scared, shocked, pissed off and I just had the desire to pull the shades down and hug myself. Life was inexplicably changed at that moment. I sat, glued to the television for about 36 hours. I had to force myself outside, dust myself off and see that unusually beautiful day. The city Stank of burning tires and metal. Sirens were wailing and fighter jets roared overhead. There was a plume of smoke that was visible all over the city. Even in Astoria, which is across the river from Manhattan.

We rode our bikes for hours in silence not wanting to speak about what was unfolding. No matter how we tried, there was no way to blink our eyes and it would be over. Like a bad dream that you cannot wake up from. Even in the bars, the TV was on and people medicated themselves in silence. For the weeks following I was numb.

Out of that one speck of time the song "A Day To Remember" was Born. While I was writing this piece, I tried not to think about how this event directly affected me but rather to think about how it affected our society as a whole. The fact is, that our collective confidence was crushed. Security is now a faded idea. We are now forced to join the rest of the world who is fearful. And that is Wrong! The quandary now is what to do?

What we have lost is much more than a building or people. We have lost a whole way of thought. We are now facing an unexplainable evil and we must somehow rebuild our consciousness and position in the world to move forward. This is a new emotion for us and our society is now dealing with it in a myriad of ways; Anger, self destruction running away and general somberness and disbelief.

The overwhelming thought that I am left with is this: No Matter how we react to this incident or what whatever you want to call it , we must accept that we are all intrinsically tied together, for better or worse. In as much as we grieve for the lost souls of the WTC, we must also grieve for the people that will be lost in our campaign for justice and grieve for our loss of innocence. So to that end, we must love each other and look forward...Grab those people and moments that you hold dear, hug them, hold them and celebrate your lives. Thanks for listening.
